Special Educational Needs (SEN)

We give students the support they need

All Ellern Mede Schools provide additional learning support and resources for pupils who have particular Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. With highly qualified staff working in a range of formats from targeted small groups and 1:1 sessions to in-class assistance, our aim is to ensure that all pupils achieve regardless of any difficulties they may face.

We celebrate and respect neurological differences (neurodiversity) and are experienced in supporting young people with diagnosed learning difficulties and Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC). However, not all the pupils we support have a formal diagnosis.

Each school has its own SEN team which works closely with teaching staff, non-teaching staff, and clinical teams (where appropriate and necessary) to identify needs and give guidance on appropriate strategies and provisions. The SEN teams also prepare and undertake the necessary steps for the application, implementation, and monitoring of EHCPs where required.

The SEN team regularly and frequently communicates with parents to ensure that they are fully informed throughout the process of support. Staff work closely together to enable all pupils to fulfil their potential and feel positive about their learning.
