Outstanding Teaching and Support Staff
Being a group of specialist schools for children and young people who are mental health in-patients at Ellern Mede hospitals (Ridgeway, Barnet, Moorgate and Derby) and for students with social, emotional and mental health needs (Friary Hall), we see education as a key part of the therapeutic process.
Our curriculum supports the vision of progress, inclusion and empowerment by giving students the opportunity to learn and develop in a supportive and creative environment. It is much more than preparing students to pass exams but about meeting the needs and aspirations of all our students. We ensure all students have the opportunity to study a rich and broad curriculum that is personalised to meet their needs and target the gaps in their learning come about due to their circumstances.
Our aim as we implement the curriculum is that students will become independent thinkers and develop into lifelong learners, and that they will leave the school as informed, civilised and skilled young people who are prepared for education, the workplace, and the opportunities, responsibilities and challenges of living in modern British Society and indeed any community in which they live.
We understand that only when student feel safe and secure can meaningful and productive learning take place. Therefore, we recognise the importance of helping the vulnerable children in our care to feel comfortable in a school setting and build confidence in themselves and their learning.
