Our Students

Our students are young people, who for various reasons, need a more therapeutic, supportive and sensitive approach to their education. We welcome students who have needs due to social or emotional difficulties such as:

  • school refusal and phobia
  • anxiety
  • depression
  • obsessive compulsive disorders
  • other social, emotional and mental health issues; and
  • high functioning autism spectrum disorders.

Transforming Lives

Through our proven, highly individualised approach to therapeutic teaching we can support our students to:

  • engage with and enjoy the learning experience
  • discover their love of learning and their unique talents
  • achieve their best and become lifelong learners
  • become independent young adults engaged in their family and community
  • respect themselves and others
  • feel motivated and ambitious
  • be confident in their social interactions
  • experience pride and satisfaction from their own achievements
  • accept feedback in a constructive spirit as well as praise

We give every student social, cultural, spiritual and moral dimensions to their education and extra-curricular experience at Ellern Mede Orange Tree. We know this is what they need for a successful adult life.

Educational support can go with the young person up to age 25

Our teaching provision and Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) consulting teams work with each student and their parents, local authority commissioners and community agencies. We are committed to ensuring no child is left behind. EHCPs - a legal document which sets out the specific education, healthcare and social needs of a young person - can support the young person up to age 25. These are often the key instruments to the student achieving their potential, especially when periods of ill health put at risk a young person’s school attendance.

Ellern Mede Orange Tree supports young people who have, or may be close to, self-excluding from education. This may be in either mainstream or independent schools. Poor or no attendance at the former school may be due to a traumatic life event or particular needs unique to that individual student. Whatever the reason, they will benefit from the more supportive one-to-one bespoke and tailored educational tuition we provide. Our students thrive academically. They learn at their own pace in a safe and nurturing environment. They consistently impress themselves, their families, and their teachers with educational success.
