US-British author of ten novels, Tracy Chevalier, visited Ellern Mede school pupils on 13th December to speak about the process of writing her novels and encourage our budding writers.

One of Ellern Mede’s alumni has already published a book. Tracy also has a connection with one of Ellern Mede’s students.

Tracy is the author of Girl with a Pearl Earring inspired by the famous painting by Johannes Vermeer; her latest book, New Boy, just published, is inspired by Shakespeare’s Othello but is reset in Washington in the 70s.

The visit was organised by Ellern Mede maths teacher Marcin Nikodem.

“Tracy spoke about herself, how she started writing, where she finds ideas, how she works and how she overcomes problems while writing. The students had plenty of questions to ask and said they really enjoyed meeting her,” said Marcin.
