“At Ellern Mede Moorgate we are dedicated to ensuring that all children in our care access a quality education regardless of the challenges they are facing.”
A very warm welcome to the Ellern Mede Moorgate School, an independent school that specialises in providing the highest quality therapeutic education to children and young people, aged between 11 and 18 years of age, who are inpatients at the Ellern Mede Moorgate hospital for eating disorders in Rotherham, South Yorkshire.
Opened in 2020, the Moorgate school grew out of the years of expertise and wealth of experience helping children with eating disorders that had been cultivated over the past two decades at the Ofsted “Outstanding” Ellern Mede School in North London.
At Ellern Mede Moorgate we are dedicated to ensuring that all children in our care access a quality education regardless of the challenges they are facing. We offer a safe, calm, nurturing, and friendly environment so that pupils can reengage with their education and make and maintain academic progress. We understand that a supportive environment will enable our pupils to develop in skills, confidence and allow them to be successful learners.
We adopt a holistic perspective to education that combines a broad and balanced curriculum, delivered by outstanding teaching staff, with a clinical, multi-disciplinary team (MDT). It is our belief that a welcoming environment filled with purposeful activities and engagement in education can contribute alongside clinical expertise to a sustainable recovery that is both psychological and physical. In our experience, this therapeutic approach produces the best outcomes for our children and young people.
Moorgate School also works closely with the pupils’ home schools and follow their home school curriculum to ensure pupils are in line with their cohort. Where circumstances do not allow this, we implement our own highly individualised curriculum which takes into consideration the pupil’s academic ability, emotional wellbeing, mental health and if they have the physical ability to be able to cope with the demands of learning.
For all our students, we focus on creating a highly individualised curriculum centred around each of their needs and learning profiles so that they can cover both the ‘core’ subjects of English, Maths, and Science, and also a wide range of other subjects and interest areas up to GCSE and A-Level. We encourage pupils to take advantage of the wide range of subjects available such as the Humanities, Art, Law, Business Studies, Sociology, Psychology, and modern languages. Beyond these, we also offer a number of extra-curricular studies such as Photography, Driving Theory and British Sign Language courses.
Our pupils really are at the centre of everything that we do! Everything from our supportive culture of success and our positive climate for learning to the pride we take in building excellent working relationships with our students, their families, and their home schools is in service of the individual pupil’s needs and the support they need to bridge educational gaps and achieve their full potential regardless of the challenges they may be facing.
If you have any questions, or know anybody who might benefit from our services, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.
